How to Help- Hurricane Relief Efforts

It’s been a rough week for the five boroughs and the tri-state area.  From the Rockaways to Atlantic City, Red Hook to Coastal Connecticut- people are living without homes, power, and modern amenities.  Lives have been lost, and first responders of all shapes and sizes have worked around the clock to help Sandy’s survivors.

If you’d like to help the relief efforts, here are a few good places to start:

New York Cares– volunteering and donations in NYC

American Red Cross- donations throughout the affected areas

The Mayor’s Fund – donations to NYC Hurricane Relief

Serve.gov -Volunteer in relief efforts in all affected areas

In addition, lots of local nonprofits and individuals are sharing opportunities to support the relief efforts on social platforms, so keep your eyes peeled!

With a heavy heart, I’ll be running 26.2 miles through the boroughs this Sunday.  The City and NYRR decided to move forward with the 2012 ING NYC Marathon, believing that the revenue it brings in will help NYC rebuild.  I certainly hope so.

If you want to share any information about supporting hurricane relief efforts, please feel free to put them in the comments below. Thank you, and I hope all are well!
